It was not only a jubilant celebration of women's squash this past weekend at the Calgary Winter Club, but an inspiring culmination of cooperation and fortitude displayed by both participants and female organizers of this prestigious event. Held in conjunction with International Women's Day, the Calgary CFO Consulting Services Women's Squash Week showcased the most admirable of human qualities on and off the court.
The PSA final, which featured top seed Fiona Moverly (ENG) and rising star Mayer Hany (EGY) was one of the best matches in the event's history. While the match was ultimately a 3-0 victory for the Egyptian youngster, it was a hotly contested affair with the first game being decided by only 2 points 11-9, and the second going into a massive back-and-forth tiebreak 17-15.
On the amateur side, singles titles were captured by Erin Roberts, Meghan Glenday, Carla Van Remmen, Giselle Martinez Cristia, and Christine Lilley respectively. Laura Letourneau and Mackenzie Clapperton captured the doubles title.
Squash Alberta wishes to congratulate all participants on their accomplishments and the organizing committee on yet another hugely successful event. Additional information can be found using the links below:
