A few PSA players to take note of in our event this year:

  • Chris Gordon (USA) is the #1 seed and has been on tour since January of 2002.  Chris is currently ranked #78 in the world and achieved a career high ranking of #44 in May of 2013.  His only appearance here was in 2008 where he lost to Pakistan’s Majid Khan who then lost in the final.
  • Sebastien Bonmalais of France is the #2 seed and is fairly new on tour having joined the PSA in January 2016.  He currently sits at #85 in the world rankings which is also his career high.  His only appearance here was last year where he lost in the first round to eventual finalist Alfredo Avila of Mexico.
  • There is four Canadians in the draw this year, David Baillargeon of Montreal is the #8 seed, Calgary’s own Andrew Schnell is the #10 seed, Thomas King of Toronto is the #14 seed, while Brock Janzer of Calgary received the wild card spot in the draw.
  • Andrew Schnell will face a tough first round match as he has draws #3 seed Mohd Syafiq Kamal of Malaysia who is ranked at 86 in the world.  Schnell is the current and two-time Canadian champion who is playing some of the best squash of his career despite where his world ranking sits.
