Seeding Policies

Effective November 1st, 2010 Squash Alberta will be using the following system for entry into Squash Alberta Fixture Events.  The following are the Squash Alberta Fixture Events that this system will apply to:
  • Calgary Open
  • Edmonton Open
  • Alberta Closed
  • Alberta Open
  • Alberta University and College Championships

All participants will enter into the (Men's Singles All Divisions÷ or (Women's Singles All Divisions÷.  When the entry deadline date has been reached the Squash Alberta office will develop a list of players in  Men's and Women's divisions based on current Squash Alberta rankings.  If the entrant is not ranked in the Squash Alberta rankings then international, national, provincial and or head to head results where appropriate will be used.  The division size will fluctuate depending on the rankings of the players entered into the event.

Consideration will then be given for avoiding players from the same club, city, and province in first round. Where it is necessary to have byes in the draw, seeded players are put through in ranking order. When less than 100% of the draw is required to be seeded, then Squash Alberta may elect to place additional athletes based on results, to a maximum of a further 25% of each draw. These additional athletes will be placed only if their results clearly separate them from the balance of the field.

Any BYES required will be placed prior to the drawing for positions. Seeds 1 & 2 are placed at the top and bottom of the draw. Seeds 3 & 4 are then drawn for placement; first seed drawn is placed in the designated position. Seeds 5 - 8, 9 - 12, and 13 - 16, etc., are drawn. This procedure is followed until all seeds and players indicated for placement are placed in the draw.
