Vancouver was treated to some outstanding doubles squash at the Canadian Doubles Championships April 12-15. And the Alberta teams impressed everyone!
Congratulations to Eric Watson and David Ramsden-Wood who captured the Men’s 40+. They played an inspiring semis and finals, defeating Canada’s best and hometown favorites. They are the first Alberta team to win the Nationals 40+. Not to be outdone, Jaime Laird captured the Women’s Open, also a first for Alberta! All 3 of these Alberta players automatically qualify for the CanAm team which plays against the US in October.
David Letourneau and Kelly Shannon played to a level never achieved before by an Alberta Open team. They defeated the top BC teams in the quarters and semis and played an outstanding final to push the top Canadian team to the brink. A string of super exciting 15-14 games kept the fans on the edge of their seats until the last point. Well done guys!
The rest of the Alberta teams fought hard and captured some 2nd and 4 place finishes in their age groups. All 16 Alberta players thoroughly enjoyed the squash and social events!
